LGBTQIA+ History Month

Each October, LGBTQIA+ History Month is celebrated to recognize the history and achievements of the community. This observance helps promote understanding and appreciation for the contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals while also supporting equality for all. ART Surgical proudly joins in this celebration, honoring the positive impact of the LGBTQIA+ community and reinforcing its commitment to diversity and inclusion.

When is pride month June or October?

Pride month is celebrated in June. Pride Month focuses on equality. The community and allies celebrate LGBTQIA+ identities and authentic living. Pride month is in June to mark the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City. Pride month is celebrated around the world. Cities hold parades and educational events. October is LGBTQIA+ History Month. The month highlights LGBTQIA+ history and achievements. It gives visibility to the culture of the community. Both Pride Month and LGBTQIA+ History Month foster solidarity and joy.

LGBTQIA+ Advocacy and Education

LGBTQIA+ History Month is an annual celebration held each October. The observation aligns with National Coming Out Day on October 11. And finally, this month also marks a significant historical moment—the first march on Washington for gay rights in October 1979. The observance was established in 1994 by Rodney Wilson, a Missouri high school history teacher and was later recognized as a National History Month by President Barack Obama in 2009.

This month serves as an important time for advocacy and education. Allies and individuals are encouraged to learn about LGBTQIA+ history, shed light on current issues, and highlight injustices faced by the community. By promoting inclusivity and advocating for equality, everyone can contribute to a more accepting society.
